CHENNAI, May 9, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu government has extended its policy allowing all shops and establishments to remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for another three years, effective June 5th, 2025. This decision, announced last week by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, was formalized Thursday with the release of a government order amending the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947.
The order exempts businesses employing 10 or more workers from certain sections of the 1947 Act. This extension follows a similar three-year policy implemented in June 2022. The move is expected to further boost the state’s economy and provide greater flexibility for businesses.
