Thu May 08 04:17:39 UTC 2025: ## India Launches Cross-Border Strikes; US Monitors Situation

**NEW DELHI/WASHINGTON, May 8, 2025** – India launched “Operation Sindoor” early Wednesday, carrying out strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan’s Punjab province. The operation, a response to an April 22nd terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people, prompted immediate international reaction.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the strikes as “measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible,” aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure and deterring future attacks. He stated that Islamabad had failed to take demonstrable action against the perpetrators.

The United States is closely monitoring the situation. U.S. Army Pacific Commanding General, General Ronald Clark, stated that the US is “watching the situation very closely” and coordinating with higher headquarters and USINDOPACOM as more information becomes available.

U.S. President Donald Trump called for an end to the conflict, expressing a desire for India and Pakistan to “stop” and offering to help mediate if necessary. He emphasized his good relationships with both nations.

Following the strikes, residents in areas near the border reportedly sought safer locations. The situation remains tense, with the international community closely watching the developing situation.
