**Guntur, Andhra Pradesh:** A soldier from Sri Sathya Sai district in Andhra Pradesh, Murali Nayak, was killed in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir. Nayak, a resident of Kallitanda village in Gorantla mandal, died in the early hours of Friday in a crossfire with infiltrators, according to officials. His family was informed of his death on Friday morning.
Nayak joined the army as an Agniveer in 2022 and was stationed in Nashik until recently. He was called to Jammu and Kashmir amidst heightened India-Pakistan tensions.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his condolences via X (formerly Twitter), stating that Nayak’s sacrifice for the nation is deeply saddening. He offered his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh from the state government. The state government representative, Minister Savita, visited the family to offer condolences and deliver the cheque.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar also expressed their grief and offered condolences. Mr. Kumar spoke to Nayak’s father, offering support and assuring the family of the central government’s assistance.
The incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by Indian soldiers along the border.
