LAS VEGAS, NV – A 46-year-old man, identified as Gary Havens, was killed during an alleged break-in at the Canyon Gate Country Club early Sunday morning. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) homicide detectives are investigating the incident, which occurred around 5 a.m. on Bay Hill Drive. While initial details remain scarce, the case will be reviewed by the Clark County District Attorney’s office to determine if the shooting was self-defense.
The Canyon Gate Community Association notified residents via memo that the intruder was killed, but that no residents were harmed. The memo also announced increased security measures in the community. The Clark County Coroner’s office ruled Havens’ death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation is ongoing.
