**Ramanathapuram, India (May 9, 2025)** – A former vice president of a carpentry and blacksmith workers cooperative society has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹50,000 for corruption. S. P. Ganesan, 68, was found guilty of forging documents and misappropriating ₹1,55,682 in government funds during 2006-07. The funds were allocated for purchasing furniture for college hostels under the Adi Dravida Welfare Department in Ramanathapuram district. Ganesan was convicted under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Charges against a co-accused, A. Mani, were dropped following his death in 2012.
