Thu May 08 18:58:12 UTC 2025: ## Indian Missile Strike on Pakistani Compound Kills Three, Sparks Tensions
**Muridke, Pakistan –** A series of Indian missile strikes targeting Muridke, Pakistan, in the early hours of May 7th, resulted in the deaths of at least three people and significant damage to a government-controlled educational and health complex. India launched “Operation Sindoor,” a large-scale aerial attack, in retaliation for an April 22nd attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which killed 26 tourists. India blamed Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack, a claim Islamabad denies.
The targeted complex, a former Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) facility, houses a hospital, schools, a hostel, and a seminary. While Indian officials claim the strikes targeted “terrorist infrastructure,” Pakistani authorities report 31 civilian deaths, including children. The three fatalities in Muridke were identified as clerical staff members at the administrative block, which sustained heavy damage along with a nearby mosque.
Pakistani officials stated that staff and residents had been evacuated prior to the attack due to anticipated Indian action, leaving only a skeleton crew on the premises. Eyewitnesses described the impact as extremely powerful, with explosions heard miles away.
The complex has a controversial past, founded in 1988 by Hafiz Saeed, the founder of JuD, widely considered a front for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group. While Pakistani authorities took control of the facility in 2019 under international pressure to crack down on LeT, India continues to associate the site with the group, which it blames for numerous attacks, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Residents and officials deny the complex’s use for militant training. Saeed himself is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence in Pakistan on terror financing charges.
The incident has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, highlighting the ongoing conflict and the complexities surrounding the alleged links between the targeted compound and militant groups. The differing accounts of casualties and the nature of the targets underscore the deep divisions and mistrust between the two nuclear-armed nations.
