Fri May 09 00:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Launches Failed Cross-Border Attack; India Repels Assault

**New Delhi, India –** In a significant escalation of tensions, Pakistan launched a large-scale cross-border attack on India late Thursday night, utilizing drones, missiles, and fighter jets targeting Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab. The assault, aimed at airports and military installations, was met with a swift and decisive response from the Indian armed forces.

According to the Indian Ministry of Defence, all incoming hostile aircraft and drones were successfully intercepted. Three Pakistani fighter jets and at least eight drones were shot down, and one Pakistani pilot was captured. India reported zero casualties or damage to its own infrastructure.

The attack followed days of heightened tensions stemming from Operation Sindhu, a reported Indian counter-terrorism operation. Pakistan’s Information Minister, Fawad Chaudhry, claimed responsibility for the attack and falsely claimed heavy Indian military losses, a claim vehemently denied by India.

Prior to the main assault, Indian intelligence detected and thwarted an earlier Pakistani attempt involving 15 planned attacks utilizing drones and missiles. This was achieved through India’s integrated counter-unmanned aerial vehicle system. In retaliation for the attack, India reportedly destroyed key Pakistani air defense systems in Faisalabad and Sargodha.

The incident triggered a high alert across India, with blackouts imposed in border states and civilians urged to remain indoors. An IPL match in Dharamshala was abruptly suspended. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation. Reports from Pakistan indicate explosions in Lahore and siren alerts in Islamabad and Karachi.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs firmly stated that the escalation is solely Pakistan’s responsibility. The MEA stated that Pakistan continues to provide safe havens for terrorists and is engaging in disinformation campaigns internationally.

The situation remains tense, with continuing skirmishes along the border resulting in civilian and military casualties on both sides. The Indian government has assured its citizens that the situation is under control and the country’s defenses are robust.
