Fri May 09 17:12:52 UTC 2025: ## India Suspends Kartarpur Corridor Amidst Accusations of Pakistani Disinformation Campaign
**New Delhi, May 9, 2025** – India has suspended the Kartarpur Corridor, citing heightened security concerns along the India-Pakistan border, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced today. This follows accusations against Pakistan for launching a disinformation campaign and targeting Sikh gurdwaras in both India and Pakistan to incite communal unrest.
Mr. Misri condemned Pakistan’s actions, stating that the attacks, including one in Poonch, India, which resulted in casualties among the Sikh community, are a “desperate attempt to disown its acts of aggression.” He specifically highlighted the targeting of religious sites, including gurdwaras, convents, and temples, calling it a “new low, even for Pakistan.” He linked these actions to the recent Pahalgam attack, asserting that Pakistan is attempting to create communal discord.
The suspension of the Kartarpur Corridor, which connects Indian pilgrims to the revered Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan, comes in response to the tense situation and the alleged downing of an Indian drone in Nankana Sahib.
India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, has been engaged in consultations with his counterparts in the U.S., U.K., and Norway, among others. While India appreciates international support in combating terrorism and has discussed Operation Sindoor, it has not sought mediation from any third party, maintaining direct diplomatic contact with Pakistan. The situation remains tense, and the corridor will remain closed until further notice.
