Thu May 08 22:20:06 UTC 2025: ## US Adopts Hands-Off Approach to India-Pakistan Conflict Amidst Escalation
**Washington/New Delhi —** The United States is adopting a cautious, non-interventionist stance regarding the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan, according to Vice President J.D. Vance. While expressing hope for de-escalation, Vance stressed that the conflict is “fundamentally none of our business” and that the US lacks the ability to directly influence either nation’s military actions. He confirmed that the US will pursue diplomatic channels to encourage de-escalation, but will not become directly involved.
This statement comes after a series of cross-border attacks. Pakistan launched a failed missile attack targeting military installations in India, with at least eight missiles intercepted by India’s air defense system. These actions followed Indian airstrikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Punjab province, in retaliation for an April 22nd attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people. Pakistan responded with artillery and mortar shelling along the Line of Control.
President Donald Trump echoed the sentiment for de-escalation, stating his desire for both nations to cease the “tit-for-tat” actions and offering his assistance if needed. He highlighted the US’s positive relationships with both countries.
Despite the escalating tensions, both US officials expressed hopes that the conflict will not escalate into a wider regional or nuclear conflict. However, the current situation remains precarious following the recent exchange of military actions between the two nuclear-armed nations.
