Bengaluru, India – The Karnataka government has approved a 7.5% increase in tuition fees for government quota seats in private unaided engineering and architecture colleges for the 2025-26 academic year. This decision, announced late Friday, follows a meeting between Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar and representatives from private colleges. While colleges initially requested a 15-20% hike citing salary increases and infrastructure needs, the Minister held firm, resulting in a compromise.

The new fees will bring the cost of government quota seats in Type-1 private colleges to ₹1,14,199 (excluding university registration and other processing fees). COMED-K Type-1 colleges will see fees rise to ₹2,00,070, and Type-2 colleges to ₹2,81,088. In contrast, tuition fees at government and aided colleges will remain unchanged. Minister Sudhakar stated that the 7.5% increase balances the needs of both the colleges and students, considering a 10% increase was already implemented the previous year.
