Fri May 09 08:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Old Videos and Images Falsely Shared as Evidence of “Operation Sindoor”
**New Delhi, India** – Following the Indian Armed Forces’ successful “Operation Sindoor” conducted on the nights of May 6th and 7th, in response to a Pulwama-like attack in Pehalgam on April 22nd, a wave of misinformation has flooded social media platforms. Numerous videos and images, falsely presented as recent evidence of the operation, have been widely circulated.
Several users on X (formerly Twitter) shared videos and images claiming to depict the aftermath of the operation. One user, Harris Chaudhary, shared a video of a crashed jet, falsely claiming it was from the recent operation. Reverse image searches revealed this video to be from a previous incident involving a Pakistan Air Force Mirage crash near Ratti Tibba in Pakistan’s Vehari district.
Another X user, GHQ 111 Brigade TM, shared a video of nighttime aerial attacks, also falsely attributed to Operation Sindoor. Reverse image searches traced this video to a Facebook post from April 10th, describing drone attacks in the Kaluga and Moscow regions of Russia.
Furthermore, an image purporting to show the Pakistan Air Force shooting down two Indian Rafale jets was widely shared. Fact-checking revealed this image to be from a 2024 incident involving a MiG-29 crash in Barmer, Rajasthan, where the pilot ejected safely.
These instances highlight the spread of disinformation following military operations, underscoring the importance of verifying information before sharing. While the Indian government has not officially released details about the extent of Operation Sindoor, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, visited the Uri sector and reported high morale among troops, vowing to neutralize terrorists. Reports also indicate that the Indian air defense system successfully countered attacks from the Pakistani army on several Indian cities, including Jammu. The situation remains tense between India and Pakistan.
