Fri May 09 11:10:49 UTC 2025: ## India’s Airport Disruptions Amidst Heightened Tensions with Pakistan

**New Delhi, May 9, 2025** – Over 130 flights were cancelled at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Friday, following heightened security measures implemented in response to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The cancellations, affecting both domestic and international flights, are a consequence of Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory military operation launched by India on Wednesday, May 7th, in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam last month that killed at least 26 people.

Around 27 airports across India are currently closed due to Operation Sindoor, which involved strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Delhi Airport Limited (DIAL) reported that while airport operations remain generally normal, evolving airspace conditions and enhanced security checks are causing delays and cancellations. Passengers are advised to expect longer wait times at security checkpoints.

The statement from DIAL urged passengers to allow extra time for security procedures and cooperate with airline and security personnel. The cancellations, impacting 66 domestic departures, 63 domestic arrivals, 5 international departures, and 4 international arrivals between 5 am and 2 pm on Friday, underscore the significant impact of the ongoing geopolitical situation on air travel within India.
