**HONOLULU, HI (May 7, 2025)** – The Baldwin Bears defeated the Kailua Surfriders 3-1 in the opening round of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Division I Baseball Championships at Iron Maehara Stadium. A combined three-hitter by Kaden Anderson and Kip Watanabe powered the Bears to victory.
Baldwin broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning with two runs, capitalizing on Kailua’s fielding errors and a key single by Kaedyn Miyake-Matsubayashi. Miyake-Matsubayashi’s hit drove in two runs, including pinch runner Eli Nouchi and Laakea Ko.
Kailua answered in the sixth with a run, as Brandon Moore’s double scored Ryce Aoki. However, Baldwin added an insurance run in the seventh on a Marley Sebastian single, scoring Miyake-Matsubayashi.
Anderson earned the win, pitching four strong innings, allowing one hit, two walks, and striking out two. Watanabe secured the save, pitching the final three innings and allowing one run on two hits. Miyake-Matsubayashi led Baldwin’s offense with two hits, a run scored, and two RBIs. Kai Watanabe also contributed two hits for the Bears.
