**Kannur, Kerala – May 9, 2025** – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the development of Azhikkal port, a key component of Kannur’s infrastructure expansion plans. The Chief Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to integrate road development linked to the port with the Centre’s Sagarmala project. He acknowledged the need for dredging to maintain sufficient water depth, noting a temporary diversion of the dredger to Muthalakuzhi. He assured that dredging would resume promptly.
While an electronic data entry system is not yet functional at Azhikkal, Mr. Vijayan stated that customs activities will be temporarily handled through the Kozhikode system. He confirmed plans to establish a similar facility at Azhikkal within the current fiscal year. The port’s development is being pursued through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
