Fri May 09 12:32:47 UTC 2025: ## 26/11 Mumbai Attack Accused Tahawwur Rana Sent to Tihar Jail

**New Delhi, May 9, 2025** – Tahawwur Hussain Rana, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, was remanded to Tihar Jail until June 6th. A Delhi court sent Rana to judicial custody following a request by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Rana, a close associate of David Coleman Headley, was extradited from the U.S. after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his appeal. The NIA had sought extended custody, claiming Rana possessed crucial information regarding Lashkar-e-Taiba’s future terror plans and alleging a lack of cooperation during interrogation. While the agency asserted that interrogations were conducted in a “measured” manner, considering Rana’s health, they maintained that further questioning was necessary. The court previously granted the NIA access to Rana’s voice and handwriting samples.

The 2008 Mumbai attacks, carried out by 10 Pakistani terrorists, resulted in the deaths of 166 people. The attacks targeted a railway station, two luxury hotels, and a Jewish center.
