Thu May 08 00:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Fake ACB Officer Arrested in Visakhapatnam
**VISAKHAPATNAM, INDIA (October 26, 2023)** – A man impersonating an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officer was arrested in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday after attempting to extort money from a Sub-Registrar’s office.
The suspect, identified as Balaga Sudhakar, 40, from Patapatnam in Srikakulam district, entered the Madhurawada Sub-Registrar’s office claiming to be a Circle Inspector with the ACB. He threatened Sub-Registrar Chakrapani, alleging impending raids and demanding ₹5 lakh to avoid action. Sudhakar even provided a phone number to speak to a supposed ACB officer to lend credibility to his claim.
However, suspicious of his actions, the Sub-Registrar contacted the PM Palem police. Officers arrived and apprehended Sudhakar.
Police investigations revealed that Sudhakar had been operating in the area for at least three days, also causing a stir at the GVMC Zone-2 office. His actions coincided with recent ACB raids on a former official at the GVMC. Police are now investigating the identity of the woman who corroborated Sudhakar’s claims over the phone. Social media speculation suggests it may be a revenue official transferred from the district.
Sudhakar is currently in police custody, facing charges of impersonation and attempted extortion. The investigation is ongoing.
