Thu May 08 12:17:17 UTC 2025: ## International Outrage Mounts as Israel Plans Expanded Gaza Offensive Amidst Humanitarian Crisis

**GAZA CITY/UNITED NATIONS** – International condemnation is surging as Israel prepares a major offensive in Gaza, escalating the two-month-old humanitarian blockade and sparking fears of a catastrophic loss of life. The planned operation, which Israeli military sources say involves displacing most of Gaza’s residents and seizing control of the territory, has drawn sharp rebukes from world leaders and UN experts.

Over 100 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes on Wednesday and Thursday, including a significant number of children, according to rescuers. This follows weeks of escalating violence and a complete shutdown of aid access. The UN’s Human Rights Council has warned of an impending “annihilation” of Palestinians, urging the international community to act decisively to prevent a mass slaughter.

“The world faces a stark decision: remain passive and witness the slaughter of innocents, or take part in crafting a just resolution,” stated a group of over 20 UN experts. They implored the international community to avoid descending into a “moral abyss.”

France’s President Emmanuel Macron called the situation “the most critical we have ever seen,” while Spain is drafting a UN resolution to demand an immediate halt to civilian killings and the resumption of humanitarian aid. The UK’s Prime Minister also expressed deep concern, describing the situation as “increasingly intolerable.” The EU has offered to oversee aid distribution to alleviate concerns about access.

The dire humanitarian situation is further underscored by the closure of World Central Kitchen’s last remaining bakery in Gaza due to a lack of supplies. The charity stated that food and equipment are ready for delivery from neighboring countries but are blocked by Israel.

The Israeli government’s plan to control aid distribution alongside private security companies, combined with the ongoing blockade, has intensified global alarm. The international community is increasingly pressured to intervene and prevent what many fear will be a human rights catastrophe.
