Thu May 08 05:55:53 UTC 2025: **Tamil Nadu Class 12 Board Exams: 95% Pass Rate, Girls Outperform Boys**

CHENNAI, May 8, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examination (DGE) announced today that 95.03% of students passed the Class 12 state board examinations, slightly exceeding last year’s 94.56% pass rate. A total of 7,92,494 students appeared for the exams, a decrease from previous years.

Ariyalur district boasted the highest pass percentage at 98.8%, followed by Erode at 97.9%. Girls significantly outperformed boys, achieving a 96.07% pass rate compared to 93.16% for boys. Private schools recorded a 98.8% pass rate. Remarkably, 2,638 schools achieved a 100% pass rate, including 436 government schools. Even among the 8,019 students with disabilities who took the exam, 7,466 passed. 130 out of 140 prison inmates who participated also passed. A total of 26,887 students scored a centum in at least one subject.

School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi congratulated the students and encouraged those who failed to attempt the supplementary exams. He noted a decrease in the number of students who did not attend the exam this year (10,049) compared to last year (40,000).
