**Chennai, [Date]** – Girls in Tamil Nadu have once again outperformed boys in the Class XII board exams, achieving a remarkable 96.7% pass percentage compared to 93.16% for boys. The overall pass rate for the state stands at 95.03%, a slight increase from last year’s 94.56%, according to School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. A total of 7,92,454 students appeared for the exams.
The results also highlight a strong performance from rural schools, with Ariyalur, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, and Kanniyakumari leading the way in pass percentages. This success, according to career consultant Jeyaprakash Gandhi, is attributed to government schemes and benefits supporting rural and government school students. Government schools also saw girls dominating the top performers.
A significant number of centums (perfect scores) were recorded, totaling 26,887, with Computer Science leading the way with 9,536 centums. The state also celebrated the success of differently-abled students, with 7,466 out of 8,019 passing the exams, and 130 out of 140 prisoners appearing for the exams also passing.
Minister Poyyamozhi announced a shift in focus, aiming to secure top marks and centums from government school students in the coming years. Supplementary exams will be held in June 2025 for students who failed in any subject, ensuring they won’t miss out on college admissions.
Neighboring Puducherry, which follows a similar curriculum, reported even higher success rates, with girls in Karaikal achieving a 100% pass percentage. The remarkable results from both states underscore the dedication of students and the impact of supportive government initiatives.
