**Chandigarh, India – May 8, 2025** – Following India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor,” a series of cross-border missile strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PoK), security has been significantly heightened across northern India. The operation prompted the closure of schools in several Punjab border districts, including Amritsar, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Ferozepur, and the temporary suspension of the Kartarpur Corridor, a key religious pilgrimage route connecting India and Pakistan.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the closure of the Kartarpur Corridor citing security concerns, leaving many pilgrims stranded. Pilgrims who had arrived at the border were turned away.

Punjab’s Defence Services Welfare Minister, Mohan Bhagat, warned of potential retaliatory actions from Pakistan, urging officials to remain vigilant. Civil defence drills were conducted across Punjab, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh as a precautionary measure.

In Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu convened a high-level meeting to review the state’s security preparedness, including transport, communication, food and power supplies, disaster management, and health services. He commended the security forces for the success of “Operation Sindoor.”

The heightened security measures underscore the seriousness of the situation following the cross-border strikes. The incident has raised regional tensions and prompted widespread security precautions across northern India.
