**LARAMIE, WYOMING – May 2, 2025** – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is mourning the loss of Scott Wiley Talbott, a former director who dedicated 34 years to the agency. Talbott, who passed away peacefully on April 25th at the age of 63, served in nearly every role within the Wildlife Division, leaving behind a legacy of conservation leadership and public service.

A native of Colorado, Talbott grew up on a ranch in Wyoming, fostering a lifelong passion for the outdoors. His career with the Game and Fish Department saw him instrumental in the recovery and delisting of wolves, the resurgence of the Yellowstone grizzly bear population, and the reintroduction of the black-footed ferret. He was known for his commitment to public trust and transparency, achieving high ratings in public satisfaction and credibility during his tenure.

Beyond his professional achievements, Talbott received numerous awards and served on several national and regional wildlife organization boards. He was a graduate of the FBI Leadership Academy and Leadership Wyoming, and served as President of the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. Even in retirement, he continued his conservation work as a Guide and Outfitter Liaison for Safari Club International, traveling the globe while maintaining a deep connection to his beloved Wyoming.

Talbott is survived by his sons, Payden and Luke, his grandson, Quincy, his siblings, and their families. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30th at 2:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) at the Albany County Fairgrounds in Laramie, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a favorite charity or wildlife conservation organization.
