**Salem, Tamil Nadu, May 8, 2025** – The Salem district in Tamil Nadu experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, with a total accumulation of 266.8 mm. This is significantly higher than the district’s average rainfall of 16.68 mm. The downpour, which included strong winds, caused widespread disruption.

Omalur bore the brunt of the storm, receiving 75 mm of rain. Other areas also experienced significant rainfall, including Salem (37.6 mm), Yethapur (25 mm), and Sankagiri (24 mm). The severe weather led to the uprooting of a 150-year-old tree in Kothampatti, Attur, and power outages in Narasingapuram due to fallen tree branches. The power outage lasted for over three hours.
