**ST. LEO, Fla.** – Saint Leo University held a momentous ceremony Wednesday, celebrating the graduation of its inaugural nursing class. Twelve students received their diplomas, marking a significant milestone for the university’s new program and a much-needed boost to the region’s healthcare workforce.
Graduates, many of whom will immediately begin working in local hospitals after passing the State Board NCLEX exam, expressed pride in being part of this pioneering class. Nathanael Allen, the first graduate to receive his diploma, cited his family’s emphasis on helping others as his inspiration for pursuing nursing. He noted the unique honor of being part of a program’s first graduating class.
The university established the nursing program in direct response to Florida’s critical nursing shortage. A partnership with AdventHealth provided students with valuable hands-on experience at local hospitals and facilitated job placement within the Tampa Bay area. Associate Professor of Nursing Paige Porter highlighted the success of this collaboration, stating that many graduates have secured positions at AdventHealth alongside their preceptors.
Saint Leo University plans to expand its nursing program in the coming years, adding faculty and increasing classroom space to meet the growing demand for qualified nurses in the region.
