Thu May 08 09:03:06 UTC 2025: ## Opposition Unites Behind Government on “Operation Sindoor” Amidst India-Pakistan Tensions

**New Delhi, May 8, 2025** – A high-level all-party meeting convened today to discuss “Operation Sindoor,” the Indian military operation following the April 22nd Pahalgam terror attack, concluded with a show of bipartisan support for the government’s actions. While opposition leaders expressed their solidarity with the armed forces and praised their bravery, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge voiced disappointment at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the meeting, stating that the Prime Minister’s briefing on the anti-terrorist operation was desired.

The meeting, attended by key government ministers including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and S Jaishankar, and prominent opposition figures such as Rahul Gandhi and T R Baalu, saw a unified stance in favor of the government’s handling of the situation. Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha stated that all parties present expressed full support for the military’s actions and decisions. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reportedly cited the sensitive nature of the ongoing situation as a reason for limiting the specifics shared.

While the government assured the opposition that the needs of those affected by the conflict, particularly in border areas, would be addressed, Rahul Gandhi urged the convening of a Parliament session to bolster public confidence and allow for further discussion. The government, however, did not commit to this request. The meeting served as a display of unity amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
