Thu May 08 13:44:31 UTC 2025: ## Lalu Prasad Granted Prosecution Sanction in Land-for-Jobs Scam

**New Delhi, May 8, 2025** – President Droupadi Murmu has granted sanction to prosecute Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former Union Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the ongoing land-for-jobs scam. The sanction, granted under Section 197(1) of the CrPC and Section 218 of the BNSS, 2023, paves the way for the prosecution of the 76-year-old former Bihar Chief Minister.

The case, initially investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleges that Mr. Prasad, while serving as Union Railway Minister from 2004-2009, accepted land parcels as bribes in exchange for railway jobs. The CBI FIR states that candidates or their family members were allegedly coerced into transferring land to family members of Mr. Prasad. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) subsequently filed a chargesheet against Mr. Prasad, his son Tejashwi Yadav (former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar), and other family members last August, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The CBI has also filed three chargesheets in the case.
