**NEW DELHI, May 8, 2025** – India’s Ministry of Defence announced today that it successfully repelled a series of drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan on the night of May 7th. The attacks, reportedly in retaliation for India’s Operation Sindoor, targeted multiple locations across northern and western India, including major cities such as Srinagar, Jammu, and Amritsar.
The Ministry stated that the attacks were neutralized by India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. Debris is currently being collected as evidence of the Pakistani aggression.
In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched retaliatory strikes this morning, targeting Pakistani Air Defence systems at several locations. The Ministry confirmed that at least one Air Defence system in Lahore was neutralized.
The escalation followed increased unprovoked shelling by Pakistan across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of sixteen Indian civilians, including three women and five children. India responded to this shelling, bringing the Pakistani fire to a halt.
While confirming the retaliatory strikes, the Ministry of Defence emphasized the Indian Armed Forces’ commitment to de-escalation, contingent upon Pakistan respecting this commitment. The situation remains tense.
