**Islamabad, Pakistan –** Pakistan has partially closed its airspace, shutting down major airports in Lahore and Islamabad to commercial flights following Indian airstrikes targeting terrorist camps within its borders. The Karachi airport remains operational.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) announced the closure late Wednesday night, hours after India launched “Operation Sindoor,” a series of strikes in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The PAA has also formally registered concerns with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regarding the safety risks posed by the Indian actions.
India claims its strikes, targeting nine terrorist locations, killed approximately 26 individuals. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the strikes were a direct response to Pakistan’s failure to address terrorist groups operating within its territory, specifically citing the Resistance Front, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, as responsible for the Pahalgam attack. Misri accused Pakistan of providing a “safe haven” for terrorists, despite mounting international concerns.
The closure of Pakistani airspace adds to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent cross-border attacks. The situation remains fluid, with the impact on international air travel still unfolding.
