**Kolkata, West Bengal – May 8, 2025** – India launched “Operation Sindoor” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in response to the April 22nd Pahalgam terror attacks that killed at least 26 people. The operation has been met with mixed reactions from the families of victims.

While widows of some of the Pahalgam victims in West Bengal welcomed the military action, expressing hope for justice, others, like the pregnant wife of a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper held captive in Pakistan since April 23rd, fear for their loved ones’ safety. Rajni Sahu, whose husband Purnam Kumar Sahu was captured near the Punjab border, expressed concern that the operation has diminished the chances of his release and appealed for help from authorities.

Meanwhile, Kolkata schools conducted emergency evacuation drills following an advisory from the Ministry of Home Affairs, preparing students for potential crisis situations. The drills, lasting approximately 30 minutes, took place at four prominent schools across the city. The operation and its aftermath continue to be a focal point for the nation.
