**NEW DELHI** – The Indian Defence Ministry announced Friday that it successfully repelled a series of drone and missile attacks launched by the Pakistani military targeting 15 Indian cities overnight. The attacks, which targeted locations across northern and western India, including major cities like Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar, were thwarted by the Indian armed forces. The ministry confirmed the recovery of debris from multiple locations, providing evidence of the Pakistani attacks.
This escalation follows India’s “Operation Sindoor,” launched earlier this week in response to a terrorist attack in Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir, that killed 26 people. Operation Sindoor involved the launching of 24 missiles in 25 minutes, targeting nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Indian sources claim the operation resulted in over 70 terrorist deaths and over 60 injuries. Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar has claimed that 10 family members and four aides were killed in the strikes.
In a significant development, the Indian military claims to have destroyed a Pakistani air defence system located in Lahore during the retaliatory engagement.
The events unfolded hours after nationwide security drills were conducted across 244 districts to prepare for potential hostile attacks. The situation remains tense, with the Indian government asserting its commitment to defending its sovereignty.
