Thu May 08 12:50:30 UTC 2025: ## Kuvempu University VC Warns of Dangers of Nationalism Amidst Looming War

**Shivamogga, Karnataka, May 8, 2025** – Kuvempu University Vice-Chancellor Sharath Ananthamurthy issued a stark warning against the dangers of unchecked nationalism in the face of a potential global conflict. Speaking at a poetry discussion in Shivamogga on Wednesday, he emphasized that “nobody wins in a war,” expressing concern over the widespread display of nationalistic fervor online, particularly amongst those unaware of war’s devastating consequences.

Prof. Ananthamurthy highlighted the alarming trend of children discussing war without understanding its impact, urging increased exposure to poetry and literature depicting the realities of conflict to foster awareness. He also stressed the importance of continued discussions and events focused on poetry, noting a decline in such gatherings in major cities like Bengaluru and Mysuru.

The event, a “Kavya Samvada” (poetry discussion) organized by Malenadu Chintakara Chavadi, featured discussions on two new collections of translated poetry: Kamalakara Kadave’s “Valase Hakkigala Huyilu” and Jayashreenivasa Rao’s “Baltic Kadala Gaali.” Academics Rajendra Chenni and Siraj Ahmed participated in the discussion alongside the translators. The discussion was spurred by a reading of Latvian poet Amanda Aizpuriete’s poem, “War Lies at the Roadside,” translated into Kannada.
