Thu May 08 18:11:01 UTC 2025: **Supreme Court Rejects Contempt Action Against BJP MP for “Ludicrous” Remarks**

NEW DELHI, May 9, 2025 – The Supreme Court of India has dismissed a potential contempt of court case against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, deeming his accusations against the court and Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna as “ludicrous” and “absurd.” Dubey had accused Chief Justice Khanna of being responsible for “civil wars” and the Supreme Court for inciting “religious wars” following a hearing on a waqf law case.

In a six-page order, the court rejected the need for contempt proceedings, stating that while Dubey’s comments were a deliberate attempt to malign the court, it would not resort to such measures. The court emphasized its strength and resilience, highlighting that it doesn’t need to use contempt power to protect its decisions.

The Supreme Court’s statement strongly condemned Dubey’s hate speech, reiterating that such actions are a criminal offense and will not be tolerated. The court underscored the destructive nature of hate speech, emphasizing its role in eroding tolerance and harming the dignity of targeted groups within India’s multicultural society.
