JAMMU, INDIA – May 8, 2025 – Following India’s Operation Sindhur, Pakistan launched a series of retaliatory attacks across the border in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, according to the Indian Ministry of Defence. These attacks, which involved mortar fire and shelling, were attempted on the nights of May 7th and 8th. The Indian military successfully repelled these attacks.
The Ministry of Defence stated that while India did not target Pakistani military installations, any such attacks on Indian military assets would be met with a strong response. Pakistan attempted to strike several military locations in Northern and Western India using drones and missiles, but these were intercepted with the help of US-supplied air defense systems. Wreckage of downed drones and missiles has been recovered as evidence.
Furthermore, Indian forces are reported to have disabled Pakistan’s air defense systems, including a system in Lahore. The Indian military’s counter-offensive is believed to have achieved significant success in neutralizing Pakistani capabilities.
The indiscriminate shelling by Pakistani forces has tragically resulted in the deaths of 16 Indian civilians, including three women and five children. Indian troops are returning fire. The situation remains tense.
