Thu May 08 14:10:36 UTC 2025: ## Congress Shakes Up Kerala Leadership in Major Reshuffle

**Thiruvananthapuram, May 8, 2025** – The All India Congress Committee (AICC) announced a significant restructuring of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) leadership today, replacing veteran leader K. Sudhakaran with Perumbavoor MLA Sunny Joseph as the new KPCC president.

The move, announced by AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal, ends months of internal speculation and apparent infighting within the party. Sudhakaran, considered a powerful figure in Kannur district, had faced recent allegations of a conspiracy to remove him. While he reportedly objected, the AICC ultimately appointed him as a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee. Senior Congress leader A.K. Antony praised Sudhakaran’s contributions.

Joseph, known for advocating for settler farmers and controversially suggesting the culling of wild boars, is believed to have the support of the Church leadership, representing a significant electoral constituency. The AICC’s decision is seen as an attempt to quell internal dissent and project a united front.

The reshuffle also involved a focus on broader representation and youth. Adoor Prakash, an MP from the Ezhava community, was named UDF convenor, while A.P. Anil Kumar, an MLA from the SC/ST community, became a KPCC working president. The AICC also appointed P.C. Vishnunath and Shafi Parambil as working presidents, reflecting the existing factional dynamics within the Kerala Congress. The contributions of several outgoing office-bearers were also acknowledged. The appointments aim to achieve a balance of caste, religious, and demographic representation, and bring a younger demographic to the forefront of the party’s leadership.
