**Karwar, Karnataka – May 8, 2025** – The Uttara Kannada district administration is preparing for a nationwide security exercise following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Designated as a Category 2 area by the Union government, the district will conduct a mock drill focusing on citizen safety and emergency response.
The drill, scheduled for within the next week, will take place in Mallapur and will test the district’s preparedness in several key areas. These include citizen evacuation procedures, fire safety protocols, coastal security measures, and hospital emergency response capabilities. The selection of Uttara Kannada is due to its extensive coastline and several sensitive locations.
Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmipriya stated that all necessary preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and effective exercise. She emphasized that the drill is purely for practice and there is no cause for public alarm. The exercise will involve various stakeholders, including police, hospital staff, and officials from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) at Kaiga.
