Thu May 08 12:58:14 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Official Demands Separate Survey for Nomadic Scheduled Castes

**SHIVAMOGGA, Karnataka (May 8, 2025)** – G. Pallavi, chairperson of the Karnataka Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Development Corporation, has called for a separate survey of nomadic and semi-nomadic Scheduled Caste (SC) communities in Karnataka. She argues that the current survey being conducted by the Justice Nagamohan Das Commission is inadequate to address the unique needs and circumstances of these communities.

Ms. Pallavi stated at a press conference in Shivamogga that the commission’s questionnaire fails to accurately assess the socio-economic and educational status of nomadic SC populations. She emphasized the need for a three-day, hobli-level survey with a specialized questionnaire tailored to their lifestyle and challenges.

A significant portion of these nomadic communities, encompassing over 51 castes, lack essential documentation such as address proofs, caste certificates, Aadhaar cards, and ration cards, hindering their inclusion in the ongoing survey. Ms. Pallavi stressed that a separate survey would allow enumerators to consider cultural factors, occupation, and lifestyle details, leading to a more accurate representation of these communities’ needs and ensuring they benefit from government schemes. She warned that without proper inclusion, these communities risk being overlooked and missing out on crucial opportunities.
