**QUETTA, Pakistan** – The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for two separate attacks in Balochistan, Pakistan, killing 14 Pakistani soldiers. The attacks, which involved remote-controlled IEDs, occurred amidst heightened tensions following India’s reported cross-border operation, codenamed “Operation Sindoor.”
In the first incident, a military convoy was ambushed in the Shorkand area of Bolan, resulting in the deaths of all 12 soldiers aboard, including a Special Operations Commander and a Subedar. A second attack targeted a bomb disposal squad in Kech, killing two more soldiers.
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch justified the attacks, characterizing the Pakistani army as a “mercenary occupying army” serving foreign interests and profiting from Balochistan’s resources. He vowed that attacks would continue with increased intensity.
The attacks highlight the ongoing conflict in Balochistan, where separatist groups have long fought for independence, citing allegations of political marginalization, economic exploitation, and human rights abuses. The heavy military presence in the region, instead of providing security, is viewed by many as a tool of oppression, fueling resentment and further escalating the insurgency. The situation remains a significant source of instability in the region.
