Thu May 08 10:50:00 UTC 2025: ## India Retaliates After Pakistan’s Failed Nighttime Attack
**AMRITSAR, INDIA** – Following Operation Sindoor, a series of explosions and a blackout rocked Amritsar on Wednesday night, sparking initial confusion. While Indian authorities initially downplayed the events to avoid public panic, it was later revealed that Pakistan had launched a failed attack targeting 15 Indian cities.
According to the Indian government, between the nights of May 7th and 8th, Pakistan attempted to strike multiple military installations across northern and western India using drones and missiles. Targets included Avantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Falaudi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. India’s integrated counter-UAS grid and air defense systems successfully neutralized the threat, with debris from the attacks now being recovered as evidence.
However, India’s response was swift and decisive. In a surprise retaliatory strike early Thursday morning, Indian armed forces targeted and reportedly destroyed Pakistan’s air defense systems in Lahore. Damage was also reported at the Rawalpindi stadium. Indian officials further stated that drones were deployed against eight Pakistani cities – Lahore, Gujranwala, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, Attock, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, and Karachi.
This action follows Operation Sindoor, a preemptive air strike conducted on the night of May 6-7, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, resulting in the reported deaths of over 100 terrorists. While India initially described its response to Operation Sindoor as targeted and measured, the recent Pakistani attacks prompted the strong retaliation. India also cited escalating cross-border shelling from Pakistan, resulting in civilian casualties.
The Indian Ministry of Defence reiterated its commitment to de-escalation, contingent upon reciprocal action from Pakistan. An all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was held to discuss Operation Sindoor, which sources indicate is ongoing.
