Thu May 08 15:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Launches Cross-Border Missile Attack on India; India Responds
**New Delhi, [Date]** – Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply late Thursday night following a cross-border missile attack on multiple Indian cities, including Jammu, Jaisalmer, and Pathankot. The attack, which involved missiles and drones, was largely thwarted by India’s S-400 air defense system, which intercepted several incoming projectiles. India also claims to have shot down two Pakistani F-17 fighter jets in response.
Reports indicate that explosions and sirens were heard across Jammu and other affected areas, causing widespread panic and leading to immediate blackouts. Following the attack, Indian fighter jets were scrambled from Jammu airport. Multiple drones were reportedly downed near Jammu University and in areas including R.S. Pura, Arnia, and Samba. An attempted drone attack on the Pathankot airbase was also successfully repelled. Eyewitnesses reported seeing red lights and projectiles in the sky before the explosions.
This escalation follows India’s “Operation Sundar,” a precision missile strike on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan on Wednesday. The Indian Ministry of Defence reiterated that any attack on Indian military installations would meet with a “commensurate response.” Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that Pakistan has the option to de-escalate the situation, asserting that it was Pakistan’s actions following the Pulwama terrorist attack that initiated the current escalation, with India’s response being limited to “Operation Sundar.”
Pakistan’s response to the Indian airstrikes included increased cross-border firing in Jammu and Kashmir, utilizing mortars and heavy-caliber artillery in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors. This resulted in the deaths of sixteen civilians, including three women and five children. India has retaliated to this firing. The situation remains highly volatile.
