**New Delhi, May 8, 2025** – India’s air defense systems successfully thwarted multiple drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan on several military installations across the country overnight, the Indian Army announced today. The attacks, which targeted locations including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, and several other cities, occurred between May 7th and 8th. Debris from the intercepted attacks is currently being collected as evidence.
Following the attacks, which also involved violations of the ceasefire in Jammu’s Samba and R.S. Pura sectors, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened an emergency meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff and the heads of the three armed forces. This comes amidst rising security concerns across the nation.
Earlier today, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the current situation along the borders and the security implications. The meeting also covered internal security, ensuring citizen safety, and future security strategies. The use of loitering munitions by Pakistan has been confirmed. The Indian Air Defence guns responded effectively to the attacks.
