Thu May 08 12:10:00 UTC 2025: ## India Launches Retaliatory Strikes in Pakistan, Targeting Air Defense Systems: Operation Sindoor
**NEW DELHI** – India’s armed forces conducted retaliatory airstrikes against multiple locations in Pakistan under “Operation Sindoor,” the Ministry of Defence announced today. The operation, which targeted Pakistani air defense radar and systems, comes in response to recent cross-border shelling that killed 16 Indian civilians, including women and children, in areas such as Kupwara, Uri, Poonch, and Rajouri.
According to a special briefing held by Col. Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, the Indian military neutralized an air defense system in Lahore and other locations. Col. Qureshi emphasized that the response was calibrated to match the scale and nature of Pakistani aggression. The Indian government stressed that this was a retaliatory action, not the initiation of a war.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed accusations regarding the role of The Resistance Front (TRF) in the Pahalgam attack. He stated that Pakistan attempted to downplay TRF’s involvement at the UNSC, despite the group claiming responsibility twice. He further criticized Pakistan’s practice of giving state funerals to terrorists.
The Indian government reported that Pakistan launched multiple drone and missile attacks against several military bases across northern and western India between May 7th and 8th, including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Faludi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. However, India’s air defense systems successfully intercepted these attacks. The operation also involved targeted strikes against terrorist installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7th.
