Thu May 08 10:50:00 UTC 2025: ## India Retaliates with Air Strikes in Lahore After Pakistan Attacks

**NEW DELHI** – India launched retaliatory air strikes in Lahore, Pakistan, after accusing its neighbor of multiple attacks on Indian military installations across the northern and western regions of the country, the Indian government announced Thursday. The strikes, the government said, neutralized Pakistani air defense systems.

The attacks, which occurred overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, involved drones and missiles targeting several military bases in states including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat. India claims its integrated counter-UAS grid and air defense systems successfully intercepted these attacks, with debris being collected as evidence.

The Indian government stated that these attacks followed a series of cross-border ceasefire violations from Pakistan, including mortar and heavy artillery shelling in Jammu and Kashmir. These violations, according to India, resulted in the deaths of sixteen civilians, including three women and five children. India responded to this shelling, it said, while maintaining a commitment to de-escalation if Pakistan reciprocates.

This latest escalation follows India’s “Operation Sindoor,” a series of air strikes on nine terrorist targets within Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir on May 7th. India previously stated that Operation Sindoor targeted only terrorist infrastructure and avoided targeting Pakistani military installations. However, the government’s statement Thursday characterized the overnight attacks as a provocation requiring a decisive response. The Indian government emphasized that its retaliation was targeted and measured.
