Wed May 07 16:30:00 UTC 2025: ## India-Pakistan Border Escalates: Cross-Border Airstrikes Leave Casualties

**ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI** – Tensions between India and Pakistan dramatically escalated Wednesday following a series of cross-border airstrikes. India launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, claiming to be striking “terrorist infrastructure.” Pakistan’s military responded, reporting that Indian forces launched 24 strikes across six locations, resulting in at least eight deaths and over 35 injuries.

Pakistan further alleges that it shot down five Indian warplanes, a claim India has yet to address. Meanwhile, Indian authorities reported that Pakistani artillery fire killed at least three people in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The attacks follow a recent deadly assault on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a group India links to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. This incident, which killed 26 people, further inflamed already strained relations, leading to a tit-for-tat exchange of diplomatic expulsions and airspace closures prior to Wednesday’s military action.

The disputed region of Kashmir, divided between India and Pakistan, remains a major flashpoint. The Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border, witnessed these latest attacks, highlighting the volatile situation in the region. Both countries claim sovereignty over the entire territory.

The escalating violence raises serious concerns about regional stability and the potential for further conflict. International attention is focused on the situation as both nations remain locked in a dangerous standoff.
