Wed May 07 08:05:15 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Accuses India of Violating UN Charter After Military Strikes

**NEW DELHI, INDIA** – Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, accused India of violating Article 51 of the United Nations Charter following India’s Operation Sindoor military strikes. The strikes, conducted two weeks after a Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians, targeted terrorist infrastructure.

India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, defended the operation, stating the actions were “measured, non-escalatory, proportionate and responsible,” focusing on dismantling terrorist infrastructure. However, Mr. Dar, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), asserted Pakistan retains the right to respond, citing Article 51, which allows for individual or collective self-defense in the event of an armed attack.

Article 51 of the UN Charter, adopted in 1945, clarifies that self-defense actions must be reported immediately to the Security Council. While India maintains its actions were justified under this article, the statement from Pakistan signals escalating tensions between the two nations. The situation remains highly volatile.
