**GUWAHATI, INDIA – May 7, 2025** – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrest of two more individuals for allegedly supporting Pakistan following the April 22nd Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. This brings the total number of arrests to 45. The Chief Minister identified the latest detainees as Sajid Ahmed of Sonitpur and Rojan Ali of Goalpara, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that the crackdown on “anti-nationals” continues.
While some arrested individuals have apologized and promised not to repeat their actions, Chief Minister Sarma indicated that the National Security Act (NSA) will be applied to select individuals based on the severity of their actions and intent, categorizing offenders as habitual, publicity-seeking, or politically motivated. A committee will determine which individuals will face NSA charges, with Sarma emphasizing that this decision will not be politically driven.
The arrests follow the earlier detention of AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam on sedition charges for allegedly defending Pakistan’s role in the attack, which killed 26 people. Chief Minister Sarma previously warned of strong action against those who celebrated Pakistan after the attack. The investigation is ongoing.
