Wed May 07 10:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Southeast Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi Brace for Heavy Rains and Flooding

**Baton Rouge, LA** – A First Alert Weather Day has been declared for Wednesday, May 7, by the WAFB First Alert Weather Team, warning residents of southeast Louisiana and southwest Mississippi of potential flooding and isolated strong storms. A Flood Watch is in effect until 7 PM Thursday.

The National Weather Service predicts widespread rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches, with localized areas potentially receiving 6 to 8 inches or more, primarily through Wednesday morning. While the risk of severe storms diminishes after daybreak, the threat of flooding remains significant throughout the day and into Thursday for areas experiencing the heaviest rainfall.

WAFB urges residents to prepare by charging electronic devices, updating weather apps, and having multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Residents can stay updated through WAFB’s television broadcasts, WAFB+, YouTube, Facebook, and the WAFB First Alert Weather App, which includes interactive radar. The public is also encouraged to share weather photos and videos through 9Reports.
