Wed May 07 05:20:00 UTC 2025: ## India Retaliates After Pakistan Shelling Kills Civilians
**Jammu, May 7, 2025** – Six civilians were killed and over 30 injured in Pakistan’s retaliatory shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Wednesday. The shelling followed India’s “Operation Sindoor,” a series of missile strikes targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 people.
The Pakistani shelling, which began in the early hours of Wednesday, caused significant damage to houses and shops in Poonch, Kupwara, and Baramulla districts. The Srinagar airport was temporarily closed due to the ongoing conflict. This marks the 13th consecutive night of unprovoked firing along the J&K border.
Indian Army sources confirmed that they are responding to the Pakistani shelling with equal force. The strikes were aimed at several alleged bases of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group, including one in Bahawalpur. Schools and colleges in border districts have been closed, and Wednesday’s examinations at Kashmir University have been postponed.
The ceasefire violations are a significant escalation, occurring despite the 2021 ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. Pakistan’s actions began with small arms fire and escalated to heavy shelling. While the cause of a separate explosion in Ramban district remains unclear, the heightened tensions continue to create significant unrest in the region.
