Tue May 06 21:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi on High Alert for Nationwide Mock Drills Amidst India-Pakistan Tensions
**New Delhi, May 7, 2025** – Delhi is on high alert as it prepares for nationwide civil defence mock drills scheduled for Wednesday. The drills, ordered by the Union Home Ministry following the recent Pahalgam terror attack which claimed 26 lives, aim to assess preparedness for potential hostile attacks. Security has been significantly heightened across the city, particularly in high-traffic areas.
Fifty-five locations across five police districts will participate in “Operation Abhyas,” simulating scenarios such as air raids, fire emergencies, and search-and-rescue operations. The drills, taking place between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., will be overseen by District Magistrates and other officials acting as commanders.
Delhi Police have intensified 24/7 patrols, deployed additional personnel at city borders, and implemented rigorous vehicle checks. The police headquarters has also been equipped with a new long-range acoustic device for improved public communication during emergencies. Schools have been instructed to conduct disaster response training for students and teachers.
Multiple agencies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, health department, and fire department, will participate, coordinating efforts to ensure a smooth response. The National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme volunteers will also assist.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated the capital is fully prepared, while Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood affirmed they await further instructions from the Union Home Ministry. Authorities are closely monitoring social media to counter misinformation and prevent panic. The police warned against spreading rumors and stressed that strict action will be taken against those violating guidelines.
