**ERODE, Tamil Nadu, May 7, 2025** – Following the brutal murder of an elderly couple in Megaraiyan Thottam near Sivagiri on May 1st, Tamil Nadu police have launched a large-scale investigation and boosted security measures across Erode district. The killings have sparked outrage and fear among residents, leading to protests demanding swift justice.

The district police have formed ten special teams to analyze CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and interview potential suspects, including local and migrant workers, recently released convicts, and individuals with past connections to similar crimes. Sixty-eight police teams from Erode, Nilgiris, and Namakkal districts are also canvassing farmhouses, focusing on elderly residents living alone. Authorities are urging residents to install CCTV cameras and report any suspicious activity. Increased police patrols, including 35 two-wheeler and three four-wheeler patrol units, and 21 armed units, are now monitoring the area, particularly along the Lower Bhavani Project canal. Village vigilance committees have been activated across 31 villages.

Former BJP State President K. Annamalai has threatened an indefinite hunger strike beginning May 20th if the accused are not arrested within two weeks. Meanwhile, Housing and Prohibition and Excise Minister S. Muthusamy and Erode MP K.E. Prakash have visited the victims’ son to offer condolences. The investigation is ongoing.
