Tue May 06 21:36:57 UTC 2025: ## India Launches Airstrikes on Pakistan, Prompts Retaliation Vow
**ISLAMABAD, May 7, 2025** – India launched a series of airstrikes on Pakistani territory early Wednesday morning, targeting locations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Punjab province, according to the Pakistan Army. The strikes, which reportedly targeted Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Bagh in PoK, and Bahawalpur and Muridke in Punjab, resulted in casualties, including the death of a child and injuries to a man and a woman in Bahawalpur.
Pakistan’s Army spokesman, Lt. Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, confirmed the attacks, stating that Indian missiles struck multiple locations. He vowed a retaliatory response, declaring that Pakistan “will respond at a time and place of its own choosing.” Chaudhry characterized the Indian action as a “cowardly and shameful attack.” Pakistan has closed its airspace for 48 hours in response.
The airstrikes follow a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, and significantly escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. India previously responded to the attack by imposing a series of punitive measures against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and downgrading diplomatic ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier granted India’s armed forces “complete operational freedom” to retaliate. The situation remains highly volatile.
