Tue May 06 20:50:00 UTC 2025: ## India Launches Airstrikes in Pakistan, Claims Significant Casualties

**New Delhi, India** – In a major escalation of tensions, India launched airstrikes late Tuesday night targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PoK) in an operation codenamed “Operation Sindoor.” The Indian military claims the strikes, carried out using Rafale fighter jets, resulted in the deaths of approximately 200 terrorists. Reports suggest that a mosque reportedly belonging to Maulana Masood Azhar, the founder of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist group, was among the targets.

Social media platforms are circulating videos purportedly showing the airstrikes and their aftermath, including what appears to be a crashed Pakistani F-16 fighter jet in Pampore, Kashmir. The Indian Air Force also claims to have shot down a Pakistani F-16 during the operation.

The Indian government has described the operation as a preemptive strike in response to a recent terrorist attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation reportedly created a “sunrise-like” effect in the targeted areas of PoK, followed by a blackout.

Pakistan has strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a “cowardly attack.” Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director-general, Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, stated that India launched missile attacks in Kotli, Bahawalpur, and Muzaffarabad, resulting in eight deaths and 33 injuries. Pakistan claims 24 missiles were fired at six locations.

The conflicting reports from both sides highlight the escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict and raises concerns about potential further retaliation. The international community is closely monitoring the situation.
